I am submitting the following article in response to Dan Lever’s point of view in the June 19 Molalla Pioneer. In response to Mr. Dan Lever’s article, here are a few very crucial facts that might change the perception of the Iraq situation: Saddam was orphaned at age 2 or 3 and raised and indoctrinated by his uncle, who was a SS general directly under Adolf Hitler. Saddam’s uncle was in charge of “consolidating” the Arab countries into a single oil source for Hitler’s war machine, plus preparations for the “final solution of the Jewish problem.” With the demise of Hitler, Saddam’s uncle passed those objectives on to Saddam, as well as training Saddam in the brutalities of achieving them (The History Channel “Saddam and the Third Reich” on DVD, $30). I don’t know why the Republicans have been so reticent about publicizing this. Obviously the “Bush bashers” wouldn’t mention it. Saddam invaded (conquered) Kuwait and was going into Saudi Arabia when George H.W. Bush (Senior) stopped him. Unfortunately he neglected to get Saddam at that time. It is also interesting to note that many “peace” movements were made during the ’30s, including Chamberlain’s infamous negotiations with and capitulation to Hitler. Shortly thereafter Hitler began his conquest of Europe with dreams of ruling the world and World War II was on. Saddam was cast in this environment. So, after numerous overtures from the United Nations, particularly after 9/11 Bush’s fundamental choice was either a small war taking out Saddam and his lackeys or siting on his haunches and waiting for World War III, like the Democrats who had total control of Congress and the Administration during the 30s, who sat and waited for World War II, with the resulting 30-plus million deaths. I’ll take a little minor war any day, rather than one that kills (or killed) tens of millions of innocent people, plus the enormous environmental damages, wasted resources and trillions of dollars in expenditures. And that was before the weapons of mass destruction. It’s something to think about. (Mel McBurney served two years in the submarine service, Korean War) |
