Library summer reading programs continue
   The summer reading programs this year at the Molalla Public Library are Creature Feature for sixth- to12-graders and Paws, Claws, Scales and Tales for preschool-fifth grade.
   Kids must sign-up at the library to participate in the reading programs.
   In addition, the library has several performances planned for the summer. All programs are 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
   Storyteller Rick Huddle performs the interactive story “King of the Bongo” on June 28. Jason Ropp of “Dragon Theater Puppets” presents a puppet show, and “The Pirate and His Pet” teach the value of friendship and teamwork on July 5. Santiam Forestry presents “Forest Habitats” on July 12. Zoo volunteers host the “Zoo to You” petting zoo on July 19. And Santiam Forestry presents “The Real Smokey the Bear” interactive program on July 26.
   All programs are free.

   Molalla Kiddies Parade
   Registration forms for the July 1 Molalla Kiddie Parade can be picked up at Charlie’s Sporting Goods and Country Christian School.
   The parade for kids by kids is sponsored by the Molalla Fire Department and put on by the Country Christian Key Club and Molalla Kiwanis.

   Library Advisory Board seeks two positions
   The Molalla Public Library Advisory Board has two vacant positions.
   Interested persons must live in the city limits to be eligible for these positions. If interested, submit a letter of interest to City Manager Gene Green.
   Letters can be dropped off at the library or mailed to PO Box 1289, Molalla OR 97038.
   Deadline is July 7.
   The board meets at 6 p.m. the third Thursday of every month in the library conference room.

   Library looking for garage sale donations
   The Molalla Library is planning a benefit garage sale on July 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is in need of donations.
   Consider gathering your good, sellable items and deliver them in a box to the library starting now, and up to July 10.
   Cash donations are also welcome.
   All proceeds to benefit the Molalla Public Library.

   Territorial Riders trail ride on July 16 in Colton
   The Territorial Riders have set up a trail ride for July 16.
   First riders will go out at 9:30 a.m, last riders at 11:30 a.m. The ride is about 3 1/2 hours long, with moderate hills, creeks, and gravel roads.
   The cost is $8, which includes a hot dog lunch.
   The start of the trail ride begins on Grays Hill Road. Follow the signs from Colton to get to the start point. For more information, call Joanne at 503-663-5632 or Gary at 503-637-3878.
   Safety Town returning to Molalla in July
   Safety town, a safety education program, visits Molalla the week of July 17- 21.
   For children ages 4-6, the weeklong activity introduces many safety concepts, including pedestrian, bike, water, dog, bus, fire, poisons, stranger danger, and much more.
   Safety Town is held at the Molalla River Middle School, and is brought to you by Molalla Community School
   Tuition is $50. Limited scholarships are available.
   Parent and teen volunteers are still needed.

   Weed and Seed meeting to help weed out crime
   Community members are invited to attend and participate in the next Weed and Seed meeting 6:30 p.m. Monday, July 17 at the Molalla Adult Community Center, located at 315 Kennel Ave.
   The city of Molalla is planning to apply for grant funding to create a Weed and Seed site in Molalla. Operation Weed and Seed is a multi-agency approach to law enforcement, crime prevention and community revitalization. The U.S. Department of Justice’s Community Capacity Development Offices incorporates community-based initiatives to weed out undesirable elements such as violent crime, gang activity, drug use and drug trafficking in a targeted area of the community, and seed the area by restoring those neighborhoods through a variety of social and economic revitalization activities.

   National Night Out Against Crime coming
   Molalla will observe America’s Night Out Against Crime on Aug. 1, from 4-8 p.m. at Fox Park.
   It is a family event, where those who attend can learn about crime prevention and personal safety. Also present will be a magician, balloon animals, police cars, fire trucks, a police K-9 dog demonstration, Smokey the Bear, Sparky the Fire Dog (conditions permitting), music and more.
   Cruzin’ with the Cops
   The Clackamas County Police Officers Association presents the second annual Cruzin with the Cops Classic Car Show Sunday Aug. 13 at Clackamas Community College, 19600 S. Molalla Ave. Registration is from 8-11 a.m. The event opens to general public at 11 a.m. with awards at 4 p.m.
   Registration is $10 before Aug. 1 or $15 at the gate.
   The event benefits a Tribute a Honor, a nonprofit organization that helps families of fallen police and fire professionals.
   “Guys and Dolls” performance in August
   Molalla Community Theater presents the musical comedy “Guys and Dolls” Aug. 11-13 and Aug. 17-19. Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening performances are at 7:30, with a Sunday, Aug. 13 matinee at 2:30 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 19 matinee at 1 p.m. Doors open a half hour before each show.
   Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and students, and $5 for matinee.

   Molalla Community School summer term
   Registration for Molalla Community School summer term is currently underway.
   Classes and camps include dog obedience, Middle Eastern dance, tai chi, yoga, kick boxing, Father’s Day spa escape, girlfriend’s spa escape, Safety Town, mystery shopping, Camp Iwannacheer, Camp Iwannacraft, Camp Iwannagowild, babysitting and “chatrooms, blogs and IMs oh my.”

   Ham Radio operators
   Molalla Amateur Radio Emergency Services (MARES) needs the expertise of radio operators.
   MARES provides emergency communications during disasters to police, fire and the American Red Cross when normal modes of communications are down or overloaded.
   MARES area of responsibility is the Molalla Fire District, and emergency communication operators are needed to provide adequate coverage of the district.
   MARES in conjunction with other agencies provides training in the form of classes, correspondence courses and field training in Community Emergency Response Teams, net procedures, the National Traffic System, packet, map and compass reading and search and rescue.
   MARES meets at 7 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month in the Molalla Fire Department conference room, located at 320 N. Molalla Ave. Molalla’s net is 7:30 p.m. every Sunday on 146.580 MHz simplex.
