Molalla’s Tanner Wolfe competed in the junior division, placing 77th and cut his second day total by seven strokes.

Robbie Pitts of Eugene, Ore. aced the 152-yard par-3 7th hole with a 7-iron at Forest Hills GC in Cornelius, Ore. to sneak by the first round leaders and take medalist honors in the Junior Division at the Peter Jacobsen Junior Challenge, according to a press release by the Oregon Golf Association.

In addition to winning this championship, Pitts also earned a spot at the Callaway Junior World Championships July 15-18 in San Diego, Calif.

Tanner Wolfe of Molalla tied for 77th out of 91 contestants with Spencer Gordon of Columbia City, Ore. and Kyle Rumpf of Sherwood, Ore.

Wolfe shot an 89 the first day and cut down his score by seven strokes with a second day total of 82. Wolfe’s 171 was 27 strokes above par.

A three-hole playoff to determine the other person to advance to Junior Worlds was necessary as Arthur Kim of Tigard, Ore. and Damian Telles of The Dalles, Ore. tied for second place.

This was the second playoff this week for Kim, who on Monday was in a three-way tie for the medalist honors during the U.S. Amateur Public Links qualifier.

Although he was tied for the lead, there were only two spots available for the national championship, and Kim ended up as the first alternate.

This time, Kim came out on top as Telles missed a short putt on the final hole to extend the playoff to sudden death.

In the Girls Division (15-17), Seshia-Lei Telles of Tualatin, Ore. struggled to equal her 5-under par performance of the first round, but was able to hold on to her lead finishing at 1-over par 67-78-145.

She finished five shots ahead of Amy Beth Simanton of Lake Oswego, Ore.

By virtue of their finish, both girls also earned the opportunity to compete at Junior Worlds.

Thomas Arand of McMinnville, Ore. took the Boys Division (14-15) title by four strokes with the only under par score in his division shooting 3-under par 71-70-141.

Runners-up Alex Kang of Portland, Ore and Sulman Raza of Eugene, Ore. played off for the trophy with Kang coming out on top.

This was the first time in five years that Raza did not win his division.

Ashlee Pickerell, 13, of Salem, Ore. scored her third Intermediate Girls (12-14) title at the Jacobsen Junior Challenge with a score of 3-over par 73-74-146 improving on her score last year by 8-strokes and besting her next closest competitor by 16 strokes.

Pickerell is the odds on favorite to capture her division's title next week at the State Junior Amateur at Bandon Dunes.
