A school-wide jog-a-thon held Thursday and Friday helped Molalla Elementary School students raise funds while working up a sweat. Each grade level spent 30 minutes running, jogging or walking on a grass track in the schoolyard, with parent volunteers logging each lap.

Molalla Fire District will host their annual Fire Prevention Week open house and safety fair on Saturday, Oct. 13 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free fire truck rides will be offered throughout the event, but children must be accompanied by an adult.

Kids for Christ, the youth group at Molalla Foursquare Church, have started a clothing exchange to help local families in need. All items are free, clean and in good condition — even brand new — and have been donated by local families and Little Sweet Peas consignment shop in Molalla.

The Molalla Moose Lodge continued their annual tradition of collecting school supplies for local children. Kathy and Lloyd Lucht, Moose Lodge members, hauled boxfuls of supplies to Molalla Elementary School last Wednesday, re-stocking the shelves of counselor Robin Bergin’s office.

The Molalla City Council will hold an executive session and special meeting tonight to discuss the possibility of ending the city manager’s contract. Ellen Barnes, who took the city manager position in Molalla a year ago, said the time might be coming for her to hand off the work she’s done in correcting Molalla’s finances to a new person.
