Despite losing all-league selection Ethan Stansfield, Colton’s baseball coach, Gary Parks, is ready to see what his young team can do this season.A year removed from missing out on the playoffs by just one game, Parks believes this could be the team that gets over the hump that has plagued the program the last few years.

The excitement is palpable around the Colton softball program.Last season the Vikings made the state playoffs for the first time in 14 years. And while they got knocked out in the first round, Colton returns much of the talent off last year’s team.

Senior Anthony McKinney blasted a two out two-run home run deep over the center field wall in the second inning to give Colton an early 3-0 lead, and then junior Drexler Hall came in during the sixth and shut the door on a Gervais comeback to seal Colton’s first win of the season, 6-5.

Showing little mercy early, Colton jumped all over the visiting Gervais Cougars for eight first inning runs, as the first eight batters all scored, as the Vikings opened up league play with a 14-1 win in the shortened game.
