The Cougars used a 7-0 run in the third quarter to run away with a Casco League victory over the visiting Blue Jays. Freshman Kennedy Nofziger scored a team-high 13 points on 6-of-12 shooting, scoring most of her points down the stretch in the fourth quarter to seal the game.

The 14th-ranked Country Christian Cougars kept their spot at the top of the Casco League after taking down the Jewell Blue Jays Tuesday night. Country Christian jumped out of the gate hot, knocking down shots from all over the floor — including Cooper Nofziger’s layup off the top of the backboard — to build a five-point lead at the end of the first quarter.

Despite shooting just 32 percent from the floor and turning the ball over a whopping 30 times, the Country Christian Cougars were able to top visiting Lowell, 65-52, on Monday night.

No matter what happened Thursday, Country Christian would get at least a share of the Casco League title. Selfishly, they had no intention of sharing with Perrydale, their final league opponent of the season, who was looking for that co-champion title.

Admittedly, Jordan Syphard had not played anywhere close to his best in either of the two previous meetings with the Perrydale Pirates.But Saturday night, Syphard provided a spark coming off the bench to lead the Country Christian Cougars to the Casco League tournament title before a raucous crowd at McMinnville High School.
