John McClenny and Billy Robles had a lot in common. They just never knew it until a few weeks ago.The pair started football together in elementary school, played at Molalla High School, graduated in the spring of 2012 and enrolled at Lewis and Clark College in Portland where they are now offensive linemen.

Even in defensive battles, the Molalla Indians (0-1, 1-4) continue to struggle to find a way to win close games.
Friday, they were handed a loss in their league-opener at the hands of the Estacada Rangers (1-0, 4-1) in a low scoring affair, 6-0, but in doing so, suffered some injuries in the loss.

Entering the 2012 season, Molalla football coach Kaleb Mitchell knew he’d be facing an up-hill battle. Gone were four of his five offensive linemen, quarterback and much of the experienced talent off last year’s team.

The few who stuck around Monday night were treated to a match with more plot twists and turns than a novel.Down two sets to none, the Molalla Indians (3-3, 7-5) fought back to beat the Gladstone Gladiators (1-5, 1-13) 17-25, 22-25, 28-26, 25-21, 16-14 in a match that featured large runs, long rallies, big hits and some clutch points—as the Indians fended off a couple match points.

Molalla was knocking on Gladstone’s door. Finally, in the 17th minute, the door opened.After dominating possession and unleashing a number of shots that just missed, the Indians (6-0, 8-2) finally caught the break they needed when senior Sergio Maldonado was taken down in the box by Gladstone defender Andrew Gross.

Trying to secure a spot in the playoffs, the Molalla Indians traveled to La Salle Prep Tuesday night. The pressure of the situation for Molalla showed, as the Falcons jumped out to an 8-1 lead early in the first set and never looked back, earning a 25-10, 25-16, 25-16 win Tuesday night.

When it rains, it pours for the Molalla Indians football team.Already banged up and playing the No. 1 team in the state on a wet field after a drizzle, starting running back Alex McGann was injured early in the game Thursday night as the Indians (0-3, 1-6) were dominated in a 47-8 rout at the hands of Gladstone (2-1, 6-1).

As the Molalla Indians (1-3, 2-7) gathered around coach Kaleb Mitchell after their 38-7 win over the North Marion Huskies (0-4, 3-4) Friday night, Mitchell let out a loud yell: “Now that’s how to play football!”After a season of ups and downs — but mostly downs — the Indians looked every bit the part of a solid football squad in a dominating performance in front of an energetic Homecoming crowd.
