If the Molalla boys tennis team is going to see success this season, it’s going to be because of their strong doubles teams.Coach Laurel Roses believes that, while it’ll be tough to compete with some of the teams like La Salle Prep in singles, doubles is where the Indians can find success.

Myranda Bradshaw and Talyn Streight figure if it’s not broken, there’s no need to fix anything.The duo has been taking the court for Molalla each of the past three years, and after a trip to state last year, there are no plans to change any of their chemistry.

Most of the faces are the same for the defending state champion Molalla girls golf team. But there are two noticeable differences: a new coach, JD Clarizio, starting his first season at the helm of the golf teams, and the absence of Jennifer Gibbons, who was the leader on last year’s state champion team.

The Molalla girls tennis team opened their season, hosting the Westside Christian Eagles on a blustery afternoon last Thursday. Despite some key wins at the top spots in singles and doubles, the Eagles escaped with a 6-2 win.

Molalla High School graduate and current wrestler for Oregon State University earned a spot in the upcoming NCAA Wrestling Tournament, which will be held in Des Moines, Iowa from March 21-23.

The Molalla girls opened their track season by winning 12 of the 23 events at the Longview (Wash.) Rotary Relays Saturday, while the boys won four events.

The Molalla Indians started their season off with four games in the first week. Though they dropped three of the four, all three losses were battles.Cascade 5, Molalla 3The Molalla Indians dug themselves out of a 3-0 hole to knot the game back up at 3-3 in the fourth inning, but the host Cascade Cougars (1-0) scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the fourth and added an insurance run in the fifth to hand the Indians (0-1) a loss in their season opener Monday evening.

The Molalla golf teams teed off their seasons last week, as the boys traveled to OGA in Woodburn to face off against Gladstone Monday, while the girls traveled to Springwater in Estacada Tuesday.

It took a few games, but the Molalla bats heated up against Banks Saturday as the Indians blew out the Braves 11-0. Of course, they didn’t really need the bats to work, as the Banks pitching staff struggled to find the plate.
