Local band Sawtell performs at Long Park in Molalla during the Apple Festival held in October. Their next local show will be this Friday, Nov. 20.
Sawtell, a band featuring four young men from the Molalla area, invites the community to a food drive concert this Friday, Nov. 20 at 7 p.m. at Molalla Church of the Nazarene (located on the corner of Highway 211 and Shirley Street).
Admission is either a canned food item or $3. All food and monetary donations will be given to Molalla Service Center, a food bank serving local families.
“We’re a bunch of Christian guys in our band and we’re trying to find ways that we can impact our community through music,” lead vocalist Trent Beaver said. “Every family deserves a nice meal on Thanksgiving and Christmas and anytime, for that matter.”
Beaver’s band mates include lead guitarist Gabe Hillhouse, drummer Isaac McKinley and bassist Pete Delbridge. Beaver, Hillhouse and Delbridge are all Molalla High School graduates and McKinley graduated from Country Christian School in Molalla.
Joe Gibson, a former member of the band who now plays solo, will open the Friday music event with a 45-minute set starting at 6:30 p.m.
After Gibson’s set, Sawtell will take the stage. For the first hour, they will play Christian worship music, followed by an hour of the band’s original songs. Beaver said their music has an “acoustic, alternative-rock feel” and they have been described as a blend between Lifehouse and the Goo Goo Dolls.
“We’ve played shows for little kids all the way up to 80-year-olds,” Beaver said.
Friday’s concert will welcome all ages.
“Get ready to rock out for a good cause,” Beaver said.
Besides performing locally for various events, the band played a live set on the radio at Portland State University last week and has played shows at various Portland venues, including several at the Hawthorne Theatre.
