2010 hunting and fishing licenses on sale in time for holidays

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife began selling hunting and fishing licenses for 2010 on Dec. 1 and is encouraging buyers to purchase licenses in time for holiday gift giving.

Many options are available including the new Juvenile Resident Sports Pac for youth ages 12-17. The $55 package includes one combination hunting/fishing/shellfish license, one combined angling harvest tag, one upland game bird and Oregon waterfowl validation and tags for buck deer, elk, bear, cougar and spring turkey.

Sports Pacs for adults have been reduced in price to $164.75 and senior citizens age 70 and older who have been Oregon residents for at least five years can get a fishing license for $15 and a hunting license for $13.75. Raffle tickets are also available for $4.50 for hunters who want an additional chance to hunt big game during an extended season in an expanded hunt area.

In order to purchase licenses and packages as gifts the full name and date of birth of the person who will receive the gift must be provided. When purchasing for someone who has previously had a license the ODFW hunter/angler ID number will also be needed and can be found at the top of an old license. If the purchase is being made for someone who has not previously held a license their social security number must be provided in accordance with federal and state law.

Licenses can be purchased online at www.dfw.state.or.us/online_license_sales/, at ODFW offices that sell licenses or from an ODFW license agent.
