Timely reminder
Probably the most important bit of news this week, which affects everybody, is the time change next weekend.
Daylight-saving time becomes effective at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 14. It might be wise to advance the clock at bedtime Saturday night, and prepare to lose that hour of sleep. It will be gained back next November.
Rummage reminder
The big rummage sale at Beavercreek United Church of Christ will command attention on Friday, March 19 and Saturday, March 20. Previous rummage goers have always been happy with the event.
Convalescent update
Encouraging news comes from the convalescent area of Kathy Cook. She has now been able to come home and she is walking with a cane.
She faces more weeks of convalescence but the tone is upbeat.
Tower news
The recently installed cell phone tower on the premises of Clarkes Grange is now fully operational and AT&T customers are delighted with the strong signal.
Personal news
Every minute, or more accurately, every second has been full of activity with my houseful of visitors.
Daughter Rosalie from Victorville, Calif. and granddaughters Angela Harris from Phoenix and Andrea Knudson (Tech. Sgt. currently in the Air Force Reserve) from Washington, D.C. were special company.
We stopped at Waterfront Park, where the mast of the Battleship Oregon is located. Angela could not get enough photos of the Willamette River.
We also managed to stop at the elevator in Oregon City with more views of the river.
The fame of the “trendy” northwest Portland area has reached across the country and Andrea wanted to see for herself.
We had lunch at Rose’s, served by a tattooed waitress with a ring in her nose and feathers in her hair.
The highlight was the family gathering for lunch with my only brother, Jim Crouch, who will still be in his 70s until his next birthday in April, and my niece, Sue Armstrong.
It was the first meeting of Andrea and her uncle and cousin.
There were lots of family memories to exchange and savor.
