The Molalla Train Park at Shady Dell opened for the season May 6, inviting all ages to visit the park for free miniature train rides every Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. through October.The park was started in 1954 by the late Harry Harvey, said Pacific Northwest Live Steamers club member Rob Farquhar, and is now owned and operated by the club.Club members volunteer hundreds of hours each season, maintaining the park and the trains, manning the concession stands and keeping the train rides running.

A free community forum about how people will be affected by
upcoming reforms to the healthcare system will be held May 21 in Woodburn.
The event, sponsored by Silverton Health, will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the Woodburn
Health Center,
1475 Mt. Hood Ave., in
Woodburn.
Presentations will include overviews of the new laws’
impacts, coordinated care organizations and medical homes, according to a news
release.

Courteney Ellis of Molalla to serve as their 2012 Dairy Princess-Ambassador at a May 4 coronation.Courteney is the daughter of Rick and Kate Ellis of Molalla. She is a junior at Country Christian School, where she is active in the Key Club and the National Honor Society, where she serves as the historian. She is also involved in her church, assisting with Sunday school and serving on the youth worship team.

Colton High School will present its spring musical production of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella” this weekend and next.The play, directed by Allan Bruner with musical director Laura Knight, opens Thursday, May 10, with a 7:30 p.m. showing. In an effort to improve operations and customer service, the Molalla Police Department is moving its public entrance to the front of the building next to the Molalla City Hall entrance.The new entrance, formerly the planning department entrance, will be at ground level to better accommodate persons with disabilities. This reconfiguration of the vacant space is being done by the staff and volunteer labor and is not requiring any outside labor costs.

A section of Highway 213 between Molalla and Oregon City will be repaved from May 14 through late June, according to an Oregon Department of Transportation news release.A contractor for ODOT will oversee paving and striping work on the two-mile segment between South Spangler Road and South Monte Carlo Way. The Molalla Centennial Committee, a volunteer board recognized by the city council as the official planning committee for Molalla’s 100-year anniversary, encourages more volunteers to get involved.They currently meet the first Monday of each month. The next meeting will be Monday, May 7 at 6:30 p.m. at the Molalla Buckeroo grounds, 815 Shirley St. So far, they have tentatively planned a kickoff event for the third weekend in August of this year and additional events will be held throughout the next year, leading up to the centennial anniversary.

Update (7:25 p.m.): PGE now estimates power to be restored around 9:15 p.m., rather than the 7:15 p.m. estimate provided earlier.High winds knocked some trees and branches onto power lines in the area, leaving some Colton and Molalla residents without power. As of 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Portland General Electric reported outages affecting 154 customers in Colton and 279 in Molalla.

A series of educational field trips in the Molalla River Recreational Corridor will be held again this spring and summer, according to a news release from the Molalla River Alliance.The river alliance will hold a kickoff presentation at 7 p.m. May 8 at the Molalla Adult Community Center, 315 Kennel Ave.The free event will include a presentation from the Bureau of Land Management on the new recreation management plan for the area.
