An interesting type of beverage is about to land in Molalla.
Gil and Ivan Gongora are expanding their Bobablastic tea business into Molalla the first of February, their second Bobablastic endeavor in the area. The pair, which dialed into the Bobablastic franchise a few years ago, opened their first business in Estacada.
Now, they are eyeing the opening of Bobablastic in Molalla. There are still some hoops to jump through at the 102 N. Molalla Ave. site, but Gil is still hopeful of an early to mid-February opening of the new business.
“You know, we had the Estacada business and thought we would expand into Molalla,” Gongora explained. “We wanted to expand into rural areas. We’ve got the one in Estacada and we like the small-town vibe. We like to get involved in the community and wanted to bring something into Molalla that’s different.”
Bobablastic was founded in 2016 as a bubble tea option and is highlighted by its traditional honey boba, as well as more than 50 drink and topping combinations. Bubble tea is a is an invention from Taiwan and can offer not only flavors, but flavors within flavors.
“We are hoping to have seating for 20 to 30 people in a family-friendly environment,” Gongora said of the new space. “We want it to be a place where families can hang out, sports teams can reserve spots and provide something different for Molalla.”
The Gongoras grew up playing youth sports and plan to support Molalla’s youth sports community heavily, as well as high school athletic teams.
Additionally, there will be some snack foods on the menu, but as demand grows, the potential to add other food items is available.
For now, the goal is to finish up a few last-minute items, complete other tasks and throw open the doors sometime in early February.
